San Vendemiano (Treviso), June 16, 2025 – San Vendemiano is preparing to applaud two stars of world athletics: Larissa Iapichino and Pedro Pichardo are the stars of the 5th ATL-Etica International Meeting that tomorrow, Tuesday June 17, starting at 6 pm, promises to be a show at the municipal stadium of San Vendemiano (Treviso). The event will open with the youth competitions of the 4th ATL-Etica Youth Talent Meeting – Francesco De Coppi memorial and will continue with the competitions of the 5th ATL-Etica International Meeting – Prof. Ivo Merlo memorial. Admission is free. The international program includes six men’s events (100, 800, 3000 steeplechase, 400 hurdles, triple jump and javelin) and the same number of women’s events (200, 800, 1500, 400 hurdles, pole vault and triple jump). Over 430 athletes are registered, representing a dozen nations.

PRESENTATION – This morning, in the council chamber of the Municipality of San Vendemiano, the official presentation of the event. “I really like the second part of the name of ATL-Etica,” commented the president of the regional Coni, Dino Ponchio, accompanied by the provincial delegate Mario Sanson. “Etica means respect for the rules and people, the cornerstone of sport, and I am happy that ATL-Etica is officially active, with the new company name, also in the social field. A great meeting awaits us, which combines grassroots sport and top-level activity. An evening not to be missed.”
“Italian athletics is healthy and is approaching the great commitment at the end of the month with the European Team Championships,” added the president of the regional Fidal Sergio Baldo. “The regional movement is lively and, as a Veneto committee, we are about to launch innovative projects linked to social issues. The San Vendemiano Meeting means inclusion, innovation and high-level sport. It is an event that is growing and I hope it will continue to do so in the near future.” ATL-Etica San Vendemiano – represented by vice president Mariangela Di Benedetto and technical director Andrea De Lazzari – also made official the upcoming affiliation to Fispes, the Italian Federation of Paralympic and Social Sports. Among those present at the presentation were the president of the provincial Fidal Oddone Tubia, the mayor of San Vendemiano Guido Dussin and the regional councilor Sonia Brescacin.

APPLAUSE FOR LARISSA – On Sunday evening she was on the platform (6.90 windy, second place) at the Stockholm meeting to challenge the best long jumpers in the world in the Swedish leg of the Wanda Diamond League. And tomorrow she will be the guest of honor, together with Pichardo, at the San Vendemiano meeting. Larissa Iapichino, European indoor champion, face of a young and successful Italian athletics, began the outdoor season on May 31, in Palermo, clearing the seven meters (7.06) for the first time, the barrier of excellence in the women’s long jump. He won’t compete in San Vendemiano, but he will be on the field to receive the fans’ embrace and renew his friendship with ATL-Etica Impresa Sociale, a company where his father-coach, Gianni, is a director.

PICHARDO’S JUMPS – The San Vendemiano meeting will be Pedro Pichardo’s third outing of the season. On June 12, in the Wanda Diamond League stage in Oslo, the triple jumper, who has been a member of ATL-Etica Impresa Sociale since this year, added 3 centimeters to his seasonal record, landing at 17.06. “I am happy to compete in San Vendemiano and to be able to be an incentive and example for many young people – commented Pichardo, on the sidelines of the press conference, accompanied by his father-coach Jorge -. I will jump with a reduced run-up of nine steps, plus the pre-start, instead of the usual 14. I am sure I can achieve a significant measure, I would like the seasonal record. In the first two races of this year I was not at my best, due to a small physical problem, but now I am fine. I have worked hard to give a good measure to the public of San Vendemiano”. Thirty-one years old, Cuban naturalized Portuguese, Pichardo has a best of 18.08 which represents the sixth world performance of all time. He was Olympic champion in Tokyo in 2021 and silver last year in Paris. In his palmarés he also boasts a world title (Eugene 2022) and two world silvers (Moscow 2013 and Beijing 2015); a silver (Belgrade 2022) and a bronze (Sopot 2021) at the Indoor World Championships. He was European indoor champion in Torun in 2021 and silver in Istanbul in 2023. Outdoors he became European champion in Moscow in 2022 and last year, in the continental event in Rome, he was the protagonist of a fantastic duel with his former compatriot (naturalized Spanish) Jordan Alejandro Diaz Fortun: Pichardo came in second, but was once again able to clear 18 meters (18.04). He holds the national records of Cuba (18.08) and Portugal (18.04). In 2024 he also won the Wanda Diamond League for the third time. An absolute champion, also involved in the “Canguro” project which includes, on the initiative of ATL-Etica San Vendemiano, a series of technical and cultural exchanges with countries such as Cuba and Portugal. His race will start at 9 pm. During the presentation of the meeting, the organizers gave Pichardo a symbolic bib with the world record size indicated.
