Athleticon
In the world of Athleticon, Larissa is a comic character: the same athlete you see on the runway, drawn to show children what lies behind a jump. She is the lead of issue 1 of Athleticon MAG, out in November during the ATP Finals in Turin.
The project
Athleticon brings Italy's national team athletes into a comic designed for primary schools and families. A group of children organises a sports event and, along the way, meets their champions: challenges and friendships follow, along with the discovery that limits can be moved.
Nobody plays a part. Larissa's story is written with her and starts from what she has actually lived: the training, the falls, the competitions that matter.
The comic is endorsed by CONI and FIDAL and has been presented at Lucca Comics & Games and at the Paris Olympics. Athleticon MAG is a registered news publication.
Larissa’s plate
Larissa and her father walk through the phases of the long jump: the approach, the four steps before take-off, the flight, the landing. A plate made for ten-year-olds who want to understand how it is done.
Download it and print it, at home or in class. It is the first of a series of technical plates on the disciplines of athletics.
“A comic about athletics is something really new. I think it is the right way to introduce young people to our beautiful sport and bring them closer to it.”
Lucca Comics & Games 2024
A special Saturday at Lucca Comics & Games 2024, where Larissa Iapichino, Diamond League long jump winner, captivated the audience together with her father Gianni. A unique moment in which the magic of athletics merged with that of comics, turning the Sala Tobino in Palazzo Ducale into a place where sport and illustrated storytelling met.
Father and daughter shared anecdotes, experiences and their enthusiasm for the Athleticon project, giving everyone present an unforgettable afternoon. From the runway to the comic page, they showed how sport can speak to young people through ever new languages.
